The following error appears when opening phpMyAdmin if the tmp directory in your account’s home directory (one level above public_html) was accidentally deleted:
Error during session start; please check your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly. Also ensure that cookies are enabled in your browser.
session_start(): open(SESSION_FILE, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2)
Solution
You can resolve this immediately by creating a folder named tmp inside your account’s root directory (at the same level as public_html) using the cPanel File Manager or FTP.
Keep the directory permissions (CHMOD) of tmp at the default value 0755.
